Music Direction

As Associate Music Director for NYC's Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, Gregory has music directed and facilitated workshops teaching choral music to communites in Dublin, Ireland (Live Arts Festival), Athens, Greece (Epidavros Festival), and at Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, Switzerland. With the Bread and Puppet Theater, Gregory has taught a wide range of music from baroque to improvisation, welcoming anyone willing to sing, touring nationally and internationally. Working closely with Artistic Director Peter Schumann, Gregory has engaged with large groups of singers, most recently presenting The Honey Lets Go Home Opera, at Theater for the New City. In spring of 2018, Gregory was the music director for The Lets Make A Change Secular Revival in Portland, Maine. Gregory is well versed in facilitating the American folk tradition of Shape Note Singing, as well as teaching by ear for those who do not read music. In the Spring of 2019, Gregory will be facilitating two weekend workshops at ArtYard in Frenchtown, New Jersery for Sacred Harp Singing. 

Vocal Performance

As a Vocalist Gregory has sung for Puppet Theater and Dance performances, with contemporary classical ensembles and on the street. In the fall and winter of 2018 Gregory will be working with the socially conscious classical muisic ensemble, Ensemble Pi, singing the work of Hans Eisler, with puppetry by The Bread and Puppet Theater. With Contemporary Classical ensembles he has presented work at Carnegie Hall (Recurio, 2017) performing the work of Nehemiah Luckett, and with the Cygnus Ensemble's production of Off Beat Operas at Symphony Space.  Recently, Gregory was the tenor lead in The Requiem for Anna Politkovskaya, with music composed by Alexander Bakshi at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Gregory has been a tenor and a soloist since 2009 with The Bread and Puppet Theater, touring nationally and internationally, performing in three continents. With Bread and Puppet, Gregory has sung the work of Brahms, Monteverdi, and Weill as well a variety of cabaret acts and 12 tone text improvisation. Since 2016, he has sung with Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, performing an annual performance at Joes Pub in the Public Theater, as well as touring in the UK and the EU. In his solo work, Gregory sings in the tradition of Ethyl Eichelberger, in Drag with an accordion strapped to his body singing everything from Bette to Rossini. Gregory is a lifetime student of Jane Pesci-Townsend and currently is studying with Richard Slade.
